DEPRESSION

Depression is a “symptom” that is multiply determined. Usually, when someone seeks out assistance for depression, there has been a series of events, experiences or changes that have occurred, over a period of time, that have depleted their energy and coping strategies.

The past is intruding on the present and the future is uncertain. I think about depression as a loss of resiliency and depletion. A holistic assessment, that includes family history, lifestyle patterns, sleep, nutrition, exercise and fitness, spiritual practices, what has and has not worked for managing mood in the past, are all critical components for devising a treatment plan.

We will look at relationships and lifestyle patterns that may be impacting your mood and your self care. The tools for addressing this depletion may include a blend of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), emotion focused therapy, changes in diet and evaluation of sleep and fitness needs, yoga poses, mindfulness practices, self hypnosis skills and other interventions, to provide relief and recovery. While there are patterns in depression, each individual is unique and will respond to different modalities of treatment.  Seeking the right modalities for you, to restore resiliency and vibrancy, is the goal of treatment.
